Czech Techno

Overview

Created for Anvil Press, Czech Techno: Stories of Music showcases my approach to combining illustration and book design for a collection of short fiction.

My role included cover design and the creation of a unique illustration for each story. Working within a limited palette of black, red, and white, I developed a series of bold, graphic illustrations that use contrast, imagery, and composition to reflect the themes and energy of the collection.

The result is a cohesive body of artwork that supports the individual stories while creating a strong visual identity for the book as a whole.

Role

Book designer, cover design, typography, illustration, print production

Deliverables

  • Book cover design

  • Illustration

  • Final print-ready production files

Key design decisions

  • The cover and interior illustrations were designed to work together as a unified body of artwork, creating a consistent visual experience throughout the book.

  • A limited palette of black, red, and white was used to create strong contrast, helping the artwork remain bold, immediate, and recognizable.

  • Each story received its own illustration, providing visual variety while maintaining a cohesive approach across the collection.

  • While each illustration responds to the tone and subject matter of its story, a shared visual approach helps unify the collection as a whole.

Outcome

A visually distinctive publication that combines bold illustration and a limited colour palette to reinforce the tone and energy of the collection.
