Book Design

Overview

This collection was created while I was working with Goose Lane Editions and showcases my approach to bold, minimal design within an established publishing environment.

In addition to cover design, I also developed interior layouts and managed print production, ensuring each title was consistent, readable, and production-ready from first layout through final files.

The Six at Sixty collection (above left) was recognized with a Redgee Award for Best in Category, Print Media (Atlantic Provinces) in 2015.

Role

Book designer, cover design, interior layout, typography, print production

Deliverables

  • Book cover design

  • Interior layout design

  • Final print-ready production files

Key design decisions

  • Each book was designed to work in real retail environments while staying aligned with Goose Lane’s editorial standards and brand tone.

  • Typography and composition were developed to read instantly on the shelf and as small thumbnails, without relying on visual noise.

  • The interiors were built around hierarchy, rhythm, and readability, supporting the pace of the text while maintaining a clean, minimal aesthetic.

  • From prepress details to final exports, the work was developed with print constraints in mind so the final books matched the intent of the design.

Outcome

A body of publishing work that balances bold minimal design with strong typography, long-form readability, and print production execution, including an award-recognized collection.
