Camel Literary Magazine

Overview

Camel is an illustrated journal of narrative featuring short stories from a diverse range of authors.

For this project, I combined multiple roles by creating a unique piece of artwork for each story, designing the magazine layout, and overseeing prepress and print production.

Role

Designer and illustrator, editorial layout, art direction, prepress and print production

Deliverables

  • Editorial design for full issue

  • Custom illustration series

  • Print production and final output

Key design decisions

  • Each narrative received its own illustration, giving the issue variety while maintaining a cohesive overall tone.

  • Typography, hierarchy, and layout rhythm were designed to support readability and keep the experience engaging from story to story.

  • Artwork was created with placement, pacing, and page flow in mind so it feels embedded in the reading experience, not added on afterward.

  • The magazine was executed with close attention to prepress details and production quality so the final printed piece matches the intent of the design.

Outcome

A confident, modern strategic plan that supports long-term institutional use while making complex information easier to engage with and navigate.
